Window - Find Nearest

Overview

Open Find Nearest window using Map|Find|Nearest in Table from menu or keyboard shortcut <CTRL>E

(Postcode Professional Only)

With Find Nearest you can enter any valid postcode and show which locations from any table are nearest to that postcode.

Search results are shown in a browser window which uses the content of the table sorted by distance and direction.

Clicking on any row of the results will show label on the map and location relative to the search location for quick easy reference.

The Find Nearest window and all current settings are automatically saved and restored so when the application is re-opened the window starts up where you left off.

Quick Search Mode

A quick search mode is available for a fast default search, the minimum steps to get results are:

  1. Enter search postcode (validated during entry)
  2. Select which table to search (if not already selected)
  3. Press Find Now

Search Options

  • Only up to distance of..

Restrict search results to specified maximum distance from search postcode.

  • Only up to a maximum of..

Restrict search results to specified maximum number of records, no matter what distance or other criteria might be.

Other Options

  • Name?

    Press Name? to open window to Search by Suburb Name

    Doubleclick on any suburb search results to copy corresponding postcode into current postcode search field as quick way to find valid postcode by name.

  • Show On Map

Press Show On Map to label and show current postcode search location on map. The label is drawn using the current label font which can be changed.

When browser results are shown and clicked on then the map view will change to show each location with respect to current search location as they are clicked.

Full Search Mode

Select Only records where... to expand window to include additional record selection options.

When the criteria is selected then only those records from the table will be included in the search results.

  1. Select column from table to select from, in this case Classification is the name of the column we want to use.

When the column name is selected then a column summary will be shown in a list giving the available selection options to choose from.

Clicking on any entry in the summary will show how many record instances of that selection exists.

  1. Select which column content to search from, in this case "Chimney Sweeps" is being selected.
  1. If necessary change default from Is to Is not to select everything else except "Chimney Sweeps".
  1. Press Find Now to do the search..

In this example the column "Classification" will be searched for "Chimney Sweeps" from the table "sample_address".
